Larimar is a rare variety of pectolite, a silicate mineral, that is only found in the Dominican Republic. It was discovered and named by a priest, Father Miguel Domingo Fuertes Loren. He named this rare stone by combining the name for his daughter Larissa and the Spanish word for sea 'Mar'.
