Smudging is the tradition of cleansing and purifying with smoke from sacred herbs to clear negative energy from a person, space or object. White Sage is the most commonly used herb for cleansing. You can purchase it in many forms including, smudge sticks, incense, loose leaf and even sprays. 

To use your smudge stick, carefully light the smudge stick over a ceramic or heat proof bowl. Gently blow the glowing embers to produce smoke. Use the smoke to waft the smoke over the body, around the object or around the space you want cleansed. Setting intentions as you go. 
Make sure to continue to carry your smudge stick over the dish, so the hot ash wont burn anything. 

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR SMUDGE STICK UNATTENDED WHILE BURNING - KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN AND ANIMALS
